4 Hour Drivers Class SafeDriverTrafficSchool
Advanced Driver Improvement Course
The 12-hour Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI) course may only be taken in the event of a judgment, point suspension (example: 12 points in 12 months), or HTO (Habitual Traffic Offender) judgement. If the course is being completed due to a judgment the student needs to provide the school with the citation information for which the judgment was imposed. If the course is being completed due to a point suspension or HTO the student must inform us of this at the time of registration so we can ensure that the correct information is reported to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Basic Driver Improvement
The B.D.I. 4-hour course, is required by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for anyone who receives a simple moving violation and elects the option to attend traffic school instead of having points assessed against their driving record. The 4-hour BDI class is the most common and most widely taken course. The BDI course may be taken as an elective to avoid points, as a judgment, as a TCAC (Traffic Collision Avoidance Course) or as a defensive driving course for an insurance discount. The 4-hour course may only be taken once every twelve months. If you have already taken a 4-hour class within the past twelve months, you may be eligible to take an 8-hour course to take care of a second ticket you may have received.
Alcohol and Drug Accident Prevention Training
Alcohol and Drug Accident Prevention Training or A.D.A.P.T., is a state mandated four hour FIRST TIME driver orientation course. To be eligible for a Driving Permit or Florida Driver License, ALL persons who will be first time drivers such as students, or those who have never possessed a Driver's License in any other state or foreign country MUST complete this course or it’s equivalent. Comedy Fix Traffic School takes pride in teaching our students to understand how alcohol and other drugs will affect their driving and life in general teaching our students to understand the responsibility involved, and laws governing, the operation of any motor vehicle in the State of Florida teaching our students methods to better understand and use safe driving techniques teaching our students methods to increase driver & passenger awareness on our roadways The effect of D.A.T.E. on future drivers of any age is critical. We stand firm in our commitment to provide each student with the knowledge and tools necessary to avoid becoming a part of tomorrow’s often tragic headlines. Upon successful completion of the A.D.A.P.T. class, each student will receive a certificate of completion thereby meeting State of Florida Requirements.
Intermediate Driver Improvement
This course is similar in context to the 4-hour BDI/TCAC class, but is a bit more detailed in addressing driver safety. This course may be taken in place of the 4-hour course in SOME COUNTIES if you have already taken a 4-hour course within the past twelve months, in order to avoid points for the second traffic violation. Contact the Clerk of the Court in the county in which your ticket was issued to verify that they will accept the 8-hour program. This course may also, and often is, taken due to a judge ordering the completion of an 8-hour program for a particular citation.
Traffic Collision Avoidance Course
Students taking the "TCAC" are completing this course in accordance with the requirements outlined in Section 322.0261, Florida Statutes, stating that persons involved in certain types of traffic crashes must attend a TCAC/BDI course. Referrals to this course are typically accompanied by a notification in the form of a letter sent to the driver licensee's address on record at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Students referred to TCAC courses will, in most instances, be required to remit a copy of their completion certificate to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can elect to attend a Driver Improvement Course? A person who receives a moving or nonmoving traffic violation that would incur points on their driving record can elect to attend a driver improvement course. Exceptions: All criminal violations. CDL drivers who are charged with serious traffic violations while in their commercial motor vehicle.
Does the civil fine have to be paid if I choose to attend a driver improvement course? Yes, but the civil penalty is reduced. Check with the Traffic Division of the Clerk of Courts in the county where you received the ticket to find out the exact amount required.
How can I benefit from attending a driver improvement course? Electing to attend a driver improvement course to satisfy a violation will be entered on your driving record as "adjudication withheld": The civil penalty will be reduced. No points will be assessed to your driver’s license. Your insurance company can not refuse to renew a policy for motor vehicle insurance solely because the insured committed a non-criminal traffic infraction and they can not impose an additional premium.
How do I choose to attend a driver improvement school? Go to the County Clerk’s office in the county where you received the citation or if the police officer provided you with an envelope, you can indicate your intention to attend a driver improvement school. Carefully review the affidavit attached to the citation. How many times can I attend driver improvement school? Only once within 12 months, but no more than five times in a lifetime. However, if you are ordered by the court to take a class, you go as often as you are ordered to do so. Alternatively, some counties will allow you to take a second driver improvement class within 12 months if the first class was a 4-hour course (BDI) and the second is an 8-hour course (IDI). In other words, if you get two speeding tickets, you can eliminate any points and adjudication for the first ticket by taking a 4-hour course. Then, if it is allowed by the county where you received your ticket, you could eliminate any points and adjudication for the second ticket by taking an 8-hour course. If the county will not allow you to take a second course, apply the course to the citation with either the most points or the highest fine. If you're going to have the points for a ticket removed from your record, it's best to remove as many points as you can. The fine for many infractions can be reduced by 18% if you take a driver improvement class. If you have a large fine, the traffic school reduction could pay the course fee and more.
Where can I get more information about a driver improvement course suited to my needs and schedule? Call Comedy Fix Traffic School at (954) 747-5300.
